  1. Don’t Wait

I chose to pursue the Diploma to further expand my knowledge in the world of wine while also learning practices to increase both wine and grape quality. The Diploma fulfills both of these goals by building on the strong foundation the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines provided and is internationally recognized for its quality. As a winemaker and vineyard manager who had never studied either in post secondary, I felt as though the Diploma would lend a more scholarly aspect to my hands on knowledge.

  2. Utilize Your Skills

After I had my son in 2016, I decided I wanted to pursue wine education. I had worked in the hospitality industry for 20 years and although I love the hustle and bustle of dining room floor, that life just didn’t suit me anymore.

  3. Just Sign Up

I had worked at a winery in the Niagara region a few years back and now I am working in a totally different field as a Financial Advisor. However, the memories I had with all my coworkers, the beautiful wine region and the working experience as a Wine Consultant and Hospitality Assistant Manager back then still brings me lots of joy and made me pursue the WSET Diploma.

  4. Love What You Are Doing

I decided to pursue the Diploma because I wanted to broaden my knowledge in the field. Even though I don’t work in the wine industry, I want to prepare myself because my dream is to open a wine-related startup in the long term (can’t share many details!).

  5. The Best Way

I used to spend my summers traveling Europe which is where my interest in wine began. Although I enjoyed it I never took it seriously or thought it was something I could make a career out of. I ended up working at the LCBO right before the pandemic began, and while it canceled all my further travel plans it got me thinking about what I want to do with my life. After talking with a coworker who took WSET courses I decided to enroll at the start of 2021.

  6. Credibility and Confidence

After finishing the Diploma, my goals are to further promote Romanian wines but also sustainability in the winemaking field and consumer awareness of sustainable practices.

  7. Outside the 9-5

The WSET Diploma was an amazing journey of self discovery and challenge. I was able to gain an incredible understanding of wine styles and knowledge from around the world, which has had a profound impact on day-to-day operations at Rosewood Estates Winery.

  8. More than a Hobby

I have always had a keen interest in wine and took the WSET Level 2 to learn about various grapes and regions, more generally broaden my palate and maybe in the future do something related that is more than a hobby.

  10. Summer wine, spirits and sake courses!

When the Scotch Whisky Association originally named five regions (which included the Islands as a sub-category of the Highlands), there were only a small handful of Island distilleries. However, with the opening of distilleries from Shetland to the Outer Hebrides and others, an Island region is arguably justifiable. But does it really matter?
