The Independent Wine Education Guild (IWEG) is a not-for-profit organization made up of a community of professionals and enthusiasts connected by our passion for wine, spirits, sake and beer education for over 40 years.

We share our expert knowledge and empower each other to succeed in our professional and personal goals. Our courses are essential for professionals who want to advance their careers and they open doors to new worlds for our student community.

IWEG is the original and only Canadian school to offer all qualifications of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) — including the flagship WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines — that lead to internationally recognized certifications in wine, spirits and sake. We are the recipients of the prestigious WSET Lifetime Achievement Award for spearheading the establishment of the WSET program in Canada and for excellence in wine, spirit and sake education since 1977.

We also offer the Wine Scholar Guild’s French Wine Scholar (FWS), Italian Wine Scholar (IWS) and Spanish Wine Scholar (SWS) courses, and the Wines of Chile Academy, Wines of Portugal Academy and the Edinburgh Whisky Academy certifications. We are the 2017 Italian Wine Scholar Program Provider of the Year.

Our in-house programming features a range of topics and formats led by industry leaders and expert educators. This includes our master classes, featuring many official wine promoting organizations, such as Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB), Napa Valley Vintners, Austrian Wine, New Zealand Winegrowers, Wines of Germany, Ontario Craft Wineries and Wines of California.

Our scheduling is diverse and flexible to meet your schedule and needs. We offer in-class and online study; day and evening classes; and condensed or less intensive formats. We also offer custom corporate programming.

We’ve been committed to helping our students achieve their personal and professional goals for more than 40 years. Join our community.
